Q) I have an old Mallory automotive distributor and would like to use it in my boat, is this possible? What is the difference between my automotive distributor and one intended for a boat? A) Mallory Marine distributors are purpose built and have specific features built into each distributor that allow for optimum performance. Our distributors carry a UL/Coast Guard approval for marine use. A non-vented cap is used in conjunction with a flame arrestor screen in the housing to prevent a source of ignition in enclosed engine compartments found in marine applications. The cap hold downs use a screw down retention system to help with extreme vibration and prevent moisture from entering the distributor internals. Mallory uses a special advance curve that is tailored to marine engines and is fully adjustable to gain better engine response.
